Die Sängerin, Songwriterin, Bandleaderin & Musikethnologin Alsarah wurde im Sudan geboren. Nach der Migration in den Jemen, wanderte sie 2004 mit ihrer Familie in die USA aus, wo sie seitdem lebt & arbeitet.
Alsarah bezeichnet sich selbst als Praktizierende der ostafrikanischen Retro-Popmusik. Ihrem diversen & aus allen Regionen der Welt kommenden Publikum haben The Nubatones immer wieder bewiesen, dass Musik alle kulturellen und sprachlichen Grenzen überschreitet. Alsarah erkundet mit ihrer Band die vielen Emotionen und Themen, die den langen Weg ihrer persönlichen Migrationsgeschichte kennzeichnen.
Das aktuelle Album von Alsarah & The Nubatones „Manara“ beschreibt die Suche nach uns selbst und ist eine Homage an die Veränderungen denen wir unterliegen, an denen wir wachsen und uns ein neues Leben aufbauen. Von der Freude, die sich aus dem Zusammentreffen mit Ihren Familie ergibt, über das spirituelle Bild des Meeres - der älteste Straße der Welt, bis hin zu einem neuen Ideal und von der Großzügigkeit der Menschen, die ihr auf dieser Reise begegnet sind. Manara eine Einladung zur Selbstbeobachtung, aber auch dazu, unsere gegenseitigen Unterschiede als ein Mittel zu betrachten, sich gegenseitig zu bereichern, in kaum einer Zeit war dies wohl so wichtig wie heute.

Alsarah is a singer, songwriter, bandleader and a somewhat reluct antethnomusicologist. Bornin Khartoum, Sudan, she relocated to Yemen with her family before abruptly moving to the USA,NY where she has been residingsince 2004.
She is aself- proclaimed practitioner of East- African Retro-Popmusic. Working on various projects,she has toured both nationally and internationally. With her main outfit, Alsarah & the Nubatones, she has released 2 full-length albums titled Silt, followed by Manara (Wonderwheel Recordings, 2014 and 2016). She has also released 1full-length album with French electronic producer Débruittitled Aljawal. And she was featured on the Nile Project‘s debut CD, Aswan (named in the top 5 must heari nternational albums by NPR,2014).
Always trying to connect the musical dots both her full length albums with the Nubatones saw themselves reimagined and remixed by various acclaimed electronic producers in 2015’s Silt Remixedand 2017’s Manara Remixed. Since their first show in October of 2011, the group has performed nationally and internationally at many prestigious festivals and venues. With audiences vary in ginage and ethnicity, the Nubatones has proven over and over that soul crosses all cultural andlinguistic barriers. Under the leadership of Alsarah, the band explores the many emotions and themes that mark the long journey after immigration begins.“Manara” is a quest, and also a celebration of all the ways in which we shift, change, and grow as we seek to build a new life. From the joy that comes from gathering with your loved ones, to the spiritual image of sea-the oldest road in the world to a new ideal, from the generosity of the people met during the journey, to the way governments have been failing our humanity facing them, Manara is an invitation to introspection but also to consider our mutual differences as a means to share and to enrich one another, in the face of the currentanti-immigrant global atmosphere.
